What The Elephant Sanctuary is about:
- The Elephant Sanctuary offers an exciting, fully-comprehensive and exclusive, `hands-on` elephant experience.
- Daily programmes are conducted on foot where guests will have the opportunity to walk and interact with African Elephants.

Professional guides will take you through the sanctuary and share the wonderful world of the African elephant in a most special way. You will get to touch elephants, feel the hair on their bodies and experience their language of communication, possibly even a KISS for those single travellers on Valentines Day!

You will walk hand in trunk with the elephants and have the chance to get to know them individually through the duration of the programme.

Your understanding of elephants will be changed forever, bringing new insight into these magnificent pachyderms.
Meet the 4 Elephants weighing in at various tons, the biggest, or the charismatic who if given the chance, will welcome you with a "trunk"ing embrace. Everything about the sanctuary is special, from the way the guides impart their wealth of knowledge to the special way the elephants connect during playtime. Elephant riding is offered for those who would like to experience this unique motion 3 metres from the ground.
The sanctuary offers three different tours throughout the day.
PROGRAMMES OFFERED:
Eight o`clock Morning Elephant Tour (Duration: 08h00 to 09h45).
Guests will brush and groom the elephants, walk trunk-in-hand with them and interact with the eles in the forest area. You will see the special relationship that the elephant handlers share with their elephants and become a part of it. Guides will provide in-depth information and insight into African elephants. Guests learn about their anatomy and feed them and form relationships and bonds with the elephants.

Only children over the age of 6 may ride the elephants!

Ten o`clock Morning & Elephant Tour (Duration approx 2.5 hrs).
Guides will provide in-depth information and insight into African elephants. You will be introduced to our elephants in the forest area, and here you will be able to touch and interact with the elephants. You will see the special relationship that the elephant handlers share with their elephants and become a part of it. Short walk with the elephants trunk-in-hand. Guests learn about their anatomy and feed them. On some hot days you may even see the elephants swimming. Enjoy a drink from the cash bar on the main deck before departure. Pre booked lunch for guests on the 10h00 programme served on the deck.

Two o`clock Afternoon Elephant Tour (Duration approx 2.5 hrs)
Guests are guided in small groups on foot through the sanctuary. Guides will provide in-depth information and insight into African elephants. You will be introduced to our elephants in the forest area, and here you will be able to touch and interact with our elephants. You will see the special relationship that the elephant handlers share with their elephants and become a part of it. Short walk with the elephants trunk-in-hand. See where the elephant sleep at night in their stables. Feed the elephants. On some hot days you may even see the elephants swimming. Remember to wear flat walking shoes, sun hats and bring your camera.

Evening Programme (Two o`clock Afternoon Elephant Tour with Dinner and boma ride).
Valid from 01 November 2008: R995.00 per adult / Per Child (8-14 years) R695.00. Please note as of 1November this programme now includes Boma Ride and Sundowner.
(Duration from 14h00 to 21h00)
Afternoon tour as per above plus the elephant boma ride. Watch stunning sunsets from the mountain deck and dinner around a fire. Watch elephants going to bed, sundowner drinks on the mountain deck, return to lodge for four course dinner around a log fire in boma. (Sundowners Drinks for own account).

Optional Elephant Riding Program: This is an add-on to above programmes (Only for the fit and adventurous). The elephant rides may be added on to any of the day tours, overnight experiences but is included in the evening experience as of 1st November 2008. Riding is an opportunity to experience elephants from a different perspective.
BOMA RIDES: R350.00 per adults / R250.00 per child 8 - 16 years. Children must be 8years + to ride.
