Take to the skies in Mpumalanga - the place of the rising sun and head out on your Sunrise Balloon Flight and let the fresh crisp air refresh restore your wellbeing!

This area offers breathtaking views of natural wonders and escarpments. The balloon floats over small hills and hidden valleys and distant views to the west are of the mountains, with God’s Window clearly visible from the other side. The vegetation is a mix of riverine forest, indigenous bush and fruit orchards, and the sub-tropical climate ensures that the area is green and lush almost all year round, making a magical photographic opportunity!

The fast facts - Transfers can be included (which is at an extra cost) from your base accommodation in the area, as a very early start is required to fulfill the exhilarating experience.

Should  you be getting to the balloon launch site on your own "steam" the departure point is on the front lawn at Sabie River Adventures, about 11km from Hazyview, on the Sabie Road.

Balloon flights take place at sunrise while the air is still cool and stable, before the earth heats up. You may want to stay in Hazyview or nearby country lodge accommodation if you are heading for the northern areas of Kruger Park and surrounds. It is easily incorporated into a morning should you be visiting the Southern Kruger National Park or surrounding areas but please pre book in advance as there is very limited seats available per balloon departure - maximum 8.

Itinerary:

  • Upon arrival at the launch site, passengers are offered tea, coffee and biscuits and have a chance to take pictures of the preparation of the balloon for flight.
  • When the balloon is ready and the passengers are on board, the pilot explains what to expect on launch, in flight and on landing.
  • The flight is a scenic experience and lasts about an hour.
  • On landing we serve Cape sparkling wine (a Cap Classique wine) to celebrate the flight in the "champagne ballooning tradition". Fruit juice and bottled water are also available.
  • After the flight passengers join the pilot for breakfast at a country lodge, and for the presentation of flight certificates.
