This exclusive yet rustic retreat between Ponta do Oura, Inhaca Island and Maputo is a nature lover`s paradise, due to its totally unspoilt undeveloped coastline and low population density. It is only accessible by 4x4 vehicles and is only 665kms from Johannesburg and just over 500 kms from Durban.
Situated in the extreme south of the pristine Mozambique coastline, alongside Ponta Malongane (16km from the South African border), enjoy private and exclusive self-catering luxury, tented camp offering comfort, privacy and tranquility to the discerning nature lover and adventurer!
With the Mozambique current, flowing very close inshore from north to south, brings in all year-round clear blue warm water to the beaches of southern Mozambique and makes for excellent all year swimming conditions. The beaches are relatively flat in inclination and hence are ideal for wading out without fear of being dumped.
Accommodation at this tented camp is perfectly designed to blend into the surrounding coastal forest, where tents are housed on raised wooden platforms with verandah decks furnished with chairs and tables,offering an excellent hideout for birding or just enjoying the tranquility.
There are 8 suites (five double tents, two three-bed tents and one three-bed log cabin). The interiors are luxuriously appointed with all the home comforts & en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, comfortable beds, mosquito netting, a discreet overhead fan as well as an electric kettle and coffee and tea-making tray.
The Large communal deck offers a spectacular sea view, bar area with a bar fridge with all the necessaries. The dinning area is set up with chairs and tables as well as a fully equipped kitchen , gas braai for a quick "braai meal" and cosy firepit to enjoy the ambience of the bush at night. For those who wish to braai with wood, there is a Weber braai as well!
The activities take place from the Dive Centre next door, a 7 minute walk along the beach or a 2 minute drive from the camp. Opportunity to partake in a dolphin swim excursion, snorkling, scuba diving , fishing and even an ocean safari! The famous Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles can be seen nesting along the beach every summer from October to December. The beaches are white and pristine and stretch for many uninterrupted kilometres to the north for those who enjoy a brisk jog or walk on the beach! There is a small circular pool which flows in a 3 metere diving pool and a secure Dive Room for storing all dive and beach equipment.
There are several good restaurants either in Malongane or in neighbouring Ponta do Ouro and they are well worth trying , not only for their exotic fare but also for their beautiful and relaxed settings. The restaurant in the local village and is within walking distance from the camp. Enjoy Prawns, calamari and Portuguese chicken not to mention a few of the local dishes offered while guests watch the sun set over Lake Sugi!

How to get from SA to Mozambique Border:
The road from the Farazela border post to the Tartaruga Maritima Luxury Tented Camp is a sandy 4x4 route. If you do not have a 4x4, guests can park their vehicles at the secure parking area about 100m before the Kosi Bay/Farazela border post on the South African side (at a cost of R30 a day). Tartaruga will collect guests from the border. Transfers cost R700 return per vehicle.
PASSPORTS valid for 6 months are required, however no visa required for SA PASSPORT HOLDERS.
