Farewell Mama Africa - Miriam Makeba...

Miriam Makeba, Africa`s most celebrated singer, and the first black African woman to win a Grammy Award, has died. Makeba`s business affairs manager Graham Gilfillan confirmed yesterday morning that the legendary singer died of a heart attack in the early hours of yesterday morning near the southern Italian town of Caserta after a performance. According to Gilfillan, Makeba was with her grandson who called him yesterday morning to inform him of the singer`s death. Makeba, 76, died overnight after taking part in a concert for Roberto Saviano, a writer threatened with death by the Mafia, the Ansa news agency said.
