Ekuthuleni Lodge situated in the heart of the malaria-free Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, home to the BIG 5 and many different species of game such as Rhino and antelope. Ekuthuleni and sister lodge Tshwene invite you to savour true luxury in the heart of Africa. Ekuthuleni Lodge, meaning "place of peace" offers five ensuite chalets providing intimacy together with sweeping views of the surrounding savannah plains.

Each suite has magnificent views of the grasslands and gives a whole new meaning to nature on your doorstep. Romantic bathrooms are exceptional with both indoor and private outdoor showers, openingg onto a private courtyard.

Less than a kilometer away, you find Tshwene Lodge named after the Chacma Baboons which dot the surrounding rocky outcrops offering a secluded oasis in the rugged valley of the Taaibos River.  Rich in bird life Welgevonden offers peace and tranquility for those seeking to get away from the rat race..

The 5 suites are placed to enjoy the sweepng views of the grasslands, giving a whole new meaning to nature on your doorstep. Ekuthuleni Lodge invites guests to relax next to the swimming pool overlooking sweeping grassy plains, or watch the sun as its sets at the end of an African day. If the weather is cool, curl up with a book in one of the comfortable lounges before enjoying a delicious meal prepared with the freshest ingredients available. Meals can be enjoyed in the cosy yet trendy dining room or the open air deck, sheltered from the elements by a reed awning.

Two daily game drives are conducted by experienced rangers who will provide intimate details of the flora, fauna and birdlife that abounds and is so unique to the Waterberg. Watch the morning sun scribble intriguing patterns across the veld in the early morning safari and watch Africa awaken in front of your eyes. We then head back to the lodge for a delicious breakfast before settling down for your midday siesta! Nightlife abounds in the African bush and dangers lurk everywhere. Lions on the hunt and leopards stalking prey in the cover of darkness are truly magnificent sights to behold.Experience this truly spectacular reserve of the  Welgevonden game Reserve.

The reserve has two private landing strips and there is a private heli pad at Ekuthuleni`s sister lodge Tshwene. Check-in time is 14h00 and you should be ready to depart at 11h00, as this enables us to rotate rooms for the next arrival of guests. Your own peace of pardise is available in the form of Honeymoon suite for that special occasion, available on request.

The climate of the Waterberg area where Welgevonden is situated can be described as warm temperate with three distinct seasons. From May to July it is quite dry with maximum and minimum temperatures of 22.3C and 2.6C respectively. Ground frosts do occur regularly, particularly in the low-lying areas.

From August to October, daily temperatures begin to gradually rise, with temperatures of 27.6 C and 8.6 C respectively, and although generally dry weather, occasional thunderstorms can develop. The annual wet season extends from November to April, with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 29.3C and 14.5C respectively. The mean annual rainfall is at its highest on the Waterberg Plateau, declining gradually with decreasing elevation, and varies from 485 mm on the plains to 719 mm in the mountainous areas.

Pick up time from Welgevonden Main Gate (No private vehicles are allowed on the reserve.)
12h30 is our scheduled gate pick up time. Other pick up times – 16h00 latest – are subject to vehicle availability and may be charged for.

WWF ramps up rhino safety with new anti-poaching campaign

2010-09-10

WWF, the global conservation organization, has launched a campaign to raise support and funding for those rangers who put their lives on the line to protect Africa’s rhinos.  The month will culminate with a "Make Noise for Rhinos Day," during which WWF will ask people to dust off their vuvuzelas on Wednesday 22 September at 1 pm and make a noise with the horns in support of African rhinos.
