MalaMala, the oldest and most historical private game reserve in South Africa, frequented by many statesman, aristocats and other luminaries since its inception in 1927. Sound conservation management,sheer size of land being the largest private BIG 5 game reserve in South Africa and a 19km unfenced border shared with the Kruger National Park, contributes to Mala Mala`s reputation - as the foremost game viewing destination in the world. MalaMala`s accommodation is the Rattray trademark incarnate - discreet, classic and elegant African opulence.

MalaMala is a sanctuary for rare and endangered wildlife where nature lovers may see threatened animals such as cheetahs, pangolins and the wild dog - Africa`s second most endangered carnivore. The variety of birdlife in the reserve regularly rewards with suprising finds such as the martial eagle and ground hornbill. With over 40 years experience, MalaMala Game Reserve is a well established destination in premier safari experiences!

Game drives are conducted in open 4-wheel drive safari vehicles in the 40,000 acre MalaMala Game Reserve. The rangers are in constant radio communication with one another to keep each other informed about the location of the game. Headsets are used for this purpose so as not to disturb the sounds of the African bush. Apart from the Big 5 - cheetah and wild dog may also be seen. General game including giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, a variety of antelope and nocturnal animals such as civet cat, genet cat, honey badger and mongoose are prevalent throughout the reserve. The 4-wheel drive safari vehicles enable the rangers to leave the road and provide guests with close up game viewing and fantastic photographic opportunities. Night drives, with the aid of powerful spotlights, bring the bush to life at night.

The three camps on offer at MalaMala are :

Rattrays on Mala Mala

Sable Camp
