Travel Tips: Safari Checklist

  1. Any Personal Medication
    Please ensure you take the amounts relevant to your days of travel
  2. Binoculars
    (Night vision binoculars are not essential but highly recommended if your Safari includes night activities)
  3. Bush Clothes
    Neutral coloured (brown, tan, khaki, green, etc.), light-weight, comfortable clothes (please note that bright colours and white are not advised whilst on Safari); Gloves and Beany in Winter; Light rain gear for the rainy months.
  4. Camera and memory cards or film required for your trip
    (download areas are only in MAJOR cities)
  5. Headware – caps and sun hats are necessary for Africa's harsh climate
  6. Comfortable Walking Shoes
    Well worn in to minimize discomfort. Running or Tennis Shoes are fine
  7. Formal Clothes
    Should you be staying at prestigious city hotels or on luxury trains.
  8. Gym Clothes – should the property you are staying at offer these facilities
  9. Insect Repellant
    Examples: Tabard, Bayticol, Jungle Juice, Peaceful Sleep etc.
  10. Luggage labels for easier identification by accommodation and
    porter staff

  12. Reference materials such as mammal and bird books relevant to

  14. Small or reliable Torch for use during nocturnal hours

  16. Sunscreen and sunblock are highly recommended with minimum of 30SPF protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Please also ensure the brand purchased is of a superior and reputed standard.
  17. Good quality sunglasses which are preferably polarized
  18. Swimming gear or bathing suits are strongly recommended
  19. Passports, Visas, tickets and passes as well as foreign exchange and other important documents
  20. Your mobile cell number whilst in South Africa – leave this along with your itinerary with a friend at home
